The Classroom Wheel is an online random selector designed specifically for students, classroom tasks, groups, and activities. Paste your roster, spin, and it lands on one name — or several, if you're forming a group — giving you a fast, visible, and fair way to run a random student picker in front of the whole class.
Type or paste your roster, one student per line. Save it as a named list if you'll reuse it for this class period.
Press spin and it lands on a random student — or a random group, if you've set a group size above one.
The result is shown clearly and added to your selection history. With no-repeat mode on, that student won't come up again until you reset the round.
Randomly select who answers the next question, keeping participation fair and unpredictable.
Pick who reads next or presents next, and use no-repeat mode to work through the whole class in order.
List classroom jobs instead of names and spin to randomly assign this week's helper roles.
Set a group size above one to spin out random pairs or small teams for group work.
Enter quiz questions, discussion topics, or activity ideas as entries and let the wheel choose one.
Use no-repeat mode to generate a fair, random turn-taking order for the whole class.
Every active student on the wheel has an equal chance of being picked on each spin. The selection happens visibly, on-screen, using your browser's random number generator — not behind the scenes — so students can see the same process applied consistently to everyone. Applying the same rules every time, including how you use no-repeat mode, is the simplest way to avoid any appearance of favoritism.
Turn on no-repeat mode in Settings and each student is removed from the pool once selected, so the wheel works through your full class list before anyone can be picked a second time. When you're ready to start a new round — the next day, or the next activity — use "Reset round" to bring everyone back into the pool.
Set "Group size" to the number of students you want selected per spin — for example, 2 for pairs, or 4 for small teams. Each spin draws that many students at once, all shown together as one result, which makes it easy to build several random groups by spinning repeatedly with no-repeat mode on.
Paste an entire roster at once — one name per line, or comma-separated — instead of adding students individually.
Save multiple class lists by name and reload the right one instantly, ideal for teachers with several class periods.
Mark a student absent to exclude them from today's spins without removing them from your saved roster.
Use the Fullscreen button to expand the wheel to fill the screen, with large, readable labels — built for projecting at the front of the room or displaying on an interactive smartboard. It works the same way in a virtual classroom too: share your screen or browser tab so remote students see the exact same spin and result in real time.
Use first names and bright colors to keep young students engaged with turn-taking and simple classroom jobs.
Cold-call for discussion, assign presentation order, or randomize group projects and seminar topics.
Pick who goes first in a small tutoring group, or randomize practice questions one at a time.
Share your screen during a video call so remote students see the spin happen live, the same as an in-person class.
Your class list is processed entirely in your browser and is never uploaded to a server. If you'd rather not display full names — for example, when sharing a screen recording or projecting in a shared space — turn on Anonymize in Settings to show first names with a last initial, or edit your list to use initials or student numbers instead.
Paste your roster above and spin — free, instant, and projector-ready.
